Peechi Dam & Wildlife Sanctuary

Thrissur, Kerala, India
Peechi Dam is a primary irrigation project and a scenic marvel located in the Thrissur district. Built across the Manali River in 1957, the dam was envisioned by E. Ikkanda Warrier. It covers a vast area of 3,200 acres and serves as a major source of drinking water for the city. The adjacent Peechi -Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1958, spans 125 square kilometers of dense evergreen forests and moist deciduous vegetation. This place is a sanctuary for nature lovers, offering a serene environment away from the urban noise. The dam's reservoir is framed by the Western Ghats, providing a breathtaking backdrop for tourists and researchers alike. It is a vital ecological hub that supports a rich diversity of life while providing water to the agricultural lands of Mukundapuram and Chavakkad. :
