Historical Significance: The Dindigul Rock Fort (Malai Kottai) is a 17th-century majestic hill fort built by the Madurai Nayak King Muthu Krishnappa Nayak in 1605. It was strategically important due to its position controlling the trade routes and served as a military stronghold. It passed through t he hands of the Marathas, Haidar Ali, and Tipu Sultan before finally falling to the British in 1799 during the Polygar Wars. Current Status: The fort is a protected monument maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and offers stunning panoramic views of the entire city and surrounding plains. It is a testament to the region's tumultuous military history. Fort Structure: The fort is perched on a single rock hill, rising about 280 feet above the surrounding land, making it a natural defense structure.:
