Takht Sri Patna Sahib
Takht Sri Patna Sahib (also known as Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib) is one of the five Takhts (Seats of Authority) of the Sikhs and is the holiest Sikh shrine in Bihar; It holds immense significance as it is the sacred birthplace of the Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who was born here in 1666; T he site was also sanctified by visits from Guru Nanak Dev Ji (the first Guru) and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji (the ninth Guru); The original structure was a house (haveli) of a great devotee, Salis Rai Jouri, who converted it into a dharamsala (a religious rest house); The current magnificent structure was commissioned by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 18th century, and the present building was reconstructed following the devastating 1934 Bihar earthquake; It is a major pilgrimage center (Yatra) for Sikhs worldwide and houses several holy relics, including the cradle (Panghura Sahib) in which Guru Gobind Singh slept as a child, and his small sword (Saif).
