Tip Beach

Kalpeni, Lakshadweep, India
Location and Geological Feature: Tip Beach, or Koomel Beach, is situated at the narrow, northern end of Kalpeni Island. Its distinction lies in its location at the geographical extremity, where it tapers off towards the uninhabited islet of Cheriyam. A major feature here is the proximity of the cora l reef and the shallow sandbar that sometimes connects Kalpeni to Cheriyam at very low tides. The beach is known for its pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters, offering excellent visibility for snorkeling and sea bathing. Historically, this area was subjected to the great storm of 1847, which is believed to have separated Cheriyam from Kalpeni, making the area geologically significant. The beach is often the most secluded and naturally wild part of the island, perfect for tranquil exploration.

The Channel View: Capture the magnificent sight of the narrow turquoise channel separating Kalpeni (Tip Beach) from the untouched green of Cheriyam Island. This is the defining shot of the location.

Corals from Above: The clear water allows for beautiful photographs of the underwater coral beds from the shore or a small boat, especially when the sun is directly overhead.

Natural Seclusion: Capture the feeling of a 'deserted island' by focusing on the untouched white sand, the dense coconut canopy, and the lack of people, using the tapering landscape for composition.

The Tetrapod View: If present, use the angular geometry of the coastal protection structures (tetrapods) as a strong foreground element against the soft ocean view, creating a contrast of texture.

Snorkeling and Reef Walk: The coral reefs are very close to the shore here, making it one of the absolute best spots on the island for easy, accessible snorkeling and, during low tide, the unique experience of reef walking (guided only).
