Ideal Visit Time: Late morning (10:00 AM to 1:00 PM) is generally the best time for snorkeling, as the sun is high, providing maximum visibility and light penetration in the clear waters to see the corals. Early morning is ideal for a quiet, secluded walk.Special Events:

Corals from Above: The clear water allows for beautiful photographs of the underwater coral beds from the shore or a small boat, especially when the sun is directly overhead.
Natural Seclusion: Capture the feeling of a 'deserted island' by focusing on the untouched white sand, the dense coconut canopy, and the lack of people, using the tapering landscape for composition.
The Tetrapod View: If present, use the angular geometry of the coastal protection structures (tetrapods) as a strong foreground element against the soft ocean view, creating a contrast of texture.Photo Gallery
Things To Do
-
Snorkeling in Shallow Water: Enjoy the clear, shallow waters to observe the colorful marine life and corals just off the tip of the beach. Equipment is often rented nearby.
Kayaking to the Channel: Kayak up to the channel separating Koomel from Cheriyam (but do not land on the uninhabited island without extreme caution/permission, if available). Reef Walk (Tide Dependent) Engage in a guided reef walk at low tide, cautiously observing the exposed coral formations, small pools, and marine creatures like sea cucumbers and shells.
Sunbathing and Relaxation: The beach offers plenty of secluded spots for sunbathing and enjoying a quiet retreat, as it is further away from the main tourist concentration.
Photography of Cheriyam: Focus on capturing the beautiful, untouc...

Snorkeling and Reef Walk: The coral reefs are very close to the shore here, making it one of the absolute best spots on the island for easy, accessible snorkeling and, during low tide, the unique experience of reef walking (guided only).
Pristine Waters: The water here is considered some of the clearest on the island, ideal for photography and simply enjoying the turquoise-blue hue, which is often much calmer due to the protection from the nearby reefs. -

' The primary structural feature is the exposed coral and sand forming the intertidal zone, which acts as a bridge or separator towards Cheriyam Island.
Viewing Facilities: Simple, minimalist facilities are provided for tourists, often including small, eco-friendly bathing huts and change rooms that blend into the environment. These are generally constructed using locally sourced, simple materials like timber and thatched roofing, adhering to a basic, rustic style.
Coastal Protection: In some areas, there might be low, strategically placed tetrapods or natural coral stone revetments to protect the narrow tip from erosion, though the natural reef barrier usually serves this purpose. -
How To Reach:
By Air: Fly from Kochi to Agatti, then a ferry/ship transfer to Kalpeni. From the jetty, the best way to cover the 4 km distance is by hiring a local bicycle.
