Scenic Splendor: Manimuthar Dam is one of the largest and most picturesque dams in the Tirunelveli district, built across the Manimuthar River, a chief tributary of the Thamirabarani. Completed in 1957, it stands at the foothills of the majestic Podhigai Hills, offering a breathtaking panoramic view where the mountains meet the reservoir. About 6 KM further up from the dam lies the Manimuthar Falls, a beautiful herbal waterfall that cascades from a height of about 25 feet. The water is believed to have medicinal properties as it flows through various herbal plants in the dense forests of the Western Ghats. The area is part of the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, ensuring that the natural beauty remains pristine and untouched. It is a popular weekend getaway for locals and tourists alike who want to escape the city heat. The drive to the dam and the falls is exceptionally scenic, passing through lush green paddy fields and winding forest roads.
