How To Reach Bailey's Walk

Mount Abu, Rajasthan, India
Bailey's Walk is a historic and serene nature trail that winds through the dense forests and rocky terrain of Mount Abu, offering a peaceful alternative to the town?s more crowded viewpoints. Named after Colonel Bailey, a British officer who is believed to have either built the path or perished trag ically along its route in the late 1800s, the walk is steeped in colonial-era intrigue. The trail is one of several colonial-era paths (Craig's Path, Tiger Trail are others) designed by the British for leisurely strolls, as Mount Abu served as the summer retreat for the Rajputana residency. Unlike a structured viewpoint, Bailey's Walk is an experience of immersion in nature. It is classified as an easy-to-moderate trek, making it accessible to most visitors. The path itself is rugged, winding through the sub-tropical forest of the Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary. Along the route, trekkers are treated to changing panoramas of the valley, glimpses of the colonial-style bungalows, and a chance to observe the rich biodiversity of the Aravallis. The walk appeals primarily to trekkers, birdwatchers, and those seeking a respite from commercialized tourism. It provides a unique opportunity to connect with the ecological and historical legacy of the hill station, far from the hustle and bustle of the marketplace near Nakki Lake. The recommended duration is about 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on one's pace, and it is best enjoyed in the cool morning or late afternoon hours. It serves as a living, historical monument to the period of the British residency in Rajasthan. ----- ##
