Legend has it that during a severe drought in Mithila, Maharshi Gautam used his spiritual powers to bring a branch of the holy Ganges here, which is why the lake is also known as Gautami Ganga. The water of the Kund is considered extremely pure, and thousands of devotees gather here during Maghi Purnima to take a holy dip, believing it washes away all sins. The temple adjacent to the Kund is a simple yet powerful structure where the sage is worshipped. The atmosphere at Brahmpur is one of profound silence and scholarly weight, reflecting its history as a center for Vedic learning and philosophical debate.
