The Darbhanga Planetarium-cum-Science Museum, often simply referred to as the Darbhanga Planetarium or Taramandal, is a major modern scientific and educational landmark in Bihar. Inaugurated in January 2023 by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, it is the state's second significant facility of its kind. Bu ilt within the Polytechnic Campus in Kadirabad, it is a key part of a broader government initiative to promote science and technology education in the region, with an initial budget of over ?164 crore. The facility is substantial, encompassing a large area and designed to provide an immersive experience of the cosmos and various scientific concepts. It features a main planetarium dome with 150 seats, which hosts captivating 3D shows about space and astronomy. Beyond the planetarium, the complex includes a large auditorium with 300 seats for lectures and seminars, and a science gallery that features interactive exhibits on diverse topics. The architecture itself is noteworthy, designed by the US firm Chelsea West Architects, featuring distinct elliptical, spherical, and dome shapes. The facility is not just a place for shows; it is a center for scientific learning, featuring a dedicated orientation hall, a solar parking pathway, a cafeteria, and a lotus pond, all contributing to a comprehensive educational and recreational experience. How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Darbhanga Airport (DBR), about 8-9 KMS away. A taxi or auto-rickshaw will take you directly to the Polytechnic Campus in Kadirabad. Patna Airport (PAT) is the major alternative, about 140 KMS away, followed by a long road journey.

By Train: Darbhanga Junction (DBG) is the main railway station, about 4-5 KMS from the planetarium. Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws are the most efficient local transport options and can be hired easily. Ask for the Taramandal or the Polytechnic Campus in Kadirabad.

By Road: The planetarium is a prominent, newly developed landmark and is easily reachable by car or hired taxi. It is located near the main roads that connect the city to the Polytechnic area. Good road connectivity makes driving from nearby cities straightforward.

By Local Transport: E-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws run frequently to the Polytechnic Campus area. These are very convenient and are the recommended way to travel from the railway station or city center. They are inexpensive and the fastest local transit option. :
