How To Reach Ganga Sagar Lake

Ganga Sagar Lake (also referred to as Ganga Sagara or Ganga Sagar Pokhar) is one of the most picturesque and largest of the historical ponds in Darbhanga, part of the interconnected system of large water bodies that includes Dighi and Harahi ponds. The name itself suggests a mythological link, altho ugh the pond is not directly connected to the Ganges river; its naming reflects the cultural significance and reverence afforded to water in the Mithila region. Historically, this large tank was excavated centuries ago, possibly during the reign of Raja Gang Singh Dev in the 12th century, who sought to construct a talaab (pond) to gain religious merit and ensure the immortality of his dynasty. In the local tradition of Darbhanga's ponds, where length was sometimes determined by a horse's run (ghor-dod), Ganga Sagar is noted as the largest among the cluster of three major ponds. Its vast expanse of water provides a serene and tranquil environment, often attracting locals for relaxation and spiritual rejuvenation. Like the other major ponds in the city, Ganga Sagar plays a key role in the cultural and religious life of Darbhanga, particularly as a site for various rituals. How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Darbhanga Airport (DBR), about 8 KMS away. A taxi or auto-rickshaw can be hired for a direct ride. Patna Airport (PAT) is the major alternative, about 140 KMS away, followed by a long road journey.

By Train: Darbhanga Junction (DBG) is the most convenient railway station, about 2-3 KMS away. The lake is a prominent landmark, and auto-rickshaws or e-rickshaws are readily available outside the station for a quick ride. Ask for Ganga Sagar Pokhar.

By Road: The lake is located near the city center and is easily accessible by major city roads. It is a key reference point and can be easily reached by car, taxi, or local bus from all parts of Darbhanga and the nearby national/state highways.

By Local Transport: The best way is by local auto-rickshaw or e-rickshaw. It is a known and central destination, so travel is cheap and quick from the railway station or other city areas. :
