How To Reach Lalsavunga Park

Aizawl, Mizoram, India
Genesis and Recreational Focus:: Lalsavunga Park, located at a high elevation of 1179 meters in South Hlimen, serves as one of the most significant recreational and natural tourist destinations near Aizawl. Named in honour of Chief Lalsavunga, a historical figure associated with the founding of the original Aizawl village, the park was officially opened in October 2018. It was established to provide locals and tourists with an extensive green space for relaxation, family outings, and adventure activities, contrasting with the dense urban environment of the city proper. The park spans an area of 120 acres along a 1 KM mountain ridge, offering diverse facilities. The conceptualization of the park was a state government initiative to promote eco-tourism and healthy outdoor activities in the region, using the natural beauty of the Lushai Hills. It offers a blend of manicured gardens and untamed natural trails, allowing visitors to choose their level of engagement with nature. The high-altitude setting ensures cool, refreshing air throughout the year. The park is a modern example of organized tourism development in Mizoram, focusing on accessibility and family-friendly amenities while preserving the natural Hlimen environment.

How to Reach

By Air:: Arrive at Lengpui Airport (AJL) (~40 KM). Hire a pre-paid taxi and instruct the driver to take the road towards South Hlimen (Lalsavunga Park); the road is well-marked but mountainous, taking around 2 hours.

By Train:: From Sairang Railway Station (~35 KM), take a shared taxi to Aizawl city and then transfer to a separate cab heading towards South Hlimen via the Aizawl-Lunglei Highway (NH 54).

By Road:: From the main city center of Aizawl, the best way is to hire a dedicated yellow-and-white taxi for a return trip, which allows the driver to wait while you explore. The park is located directly on the main highway leading south of Aizawl. Shared taxis (SUMO/Bolero) heading towards Thenzawl or Lunglei will pass the entrance, but you must alight at the park entrance and walk.

By Local Transport:: Hiring a dedicated local taxi from Zarkawt or Chanmari in Aizawl is the most convenient option; ensure you negotiate the fare for the round trip, as it is a significant distance outside the city.
