Falkawn Cultural Centre

Aizawl, Mizoram, India
Falkawn Cultural Centre, also known as Zokhua, is a unique "live museum" established by the Art and Culture Department of Mizoram. It is a reconstructed traditional Mizo village that gives visitors a deep insight into the lifestyle, social structure, and architecture of the ancestors. The center fe atures life-sized replicas of various traditional houses, including the Lal In (Chief’s House), the Zawlbuk (Bachelors’ Dormitory), and the Pum (Blacksmith’s Workshop). Each structure is built using authentic materials like bamboo, thatch, and wood, showcasing the craftsmanship of the Mizo people. Walking through Falkawn is like stepping back in time; you can see the traditional hearths, storage bins for grain, and the specific layouts that defined social hierarchy in olden times. Memorial stones for famous warriors and freedom fighters are scattered across the grounds, providing a somber reminder of the tribe's brave past. The center is not just a collection of buildings; it is a space where cultural performances are often held to keep the traditions alive. It is located on a ridge that offers stunning views of the southern valleys of Aizawl. The atmosphere is educational yet serene, making it a favorite for school excursions and international tourists. It is the best place to understand the "Mizo Code of Ethics" (Tlawmngaihna) through the lens of their historical living conditions.
