Chawngtlai Viewpoint
Chawngtlai Viewpoint is located in the historic Chawngtlai village, known as the "Flower Village" of Mizoram. While further from Aizawl city, it is a crucial part of the district's tourism circuit. The viewpoint provides an incredible vista of the eastern Mizo hills and the valley below. The villag e itself is steeped in history, housing various artifacts and monuments related to Mizo warriors and chiefs. The viewpoint is famous for the Sahlam tree, where warriors used to hang the heads of enemies in ancient times—a grim but significant historical site. Today, the area is transformed into a peaceful garden. The air is filled with the scent of wild flowers that the villagers have painstakingly cultivated. It is a place of stories, where every stone and tree has a legend attached to it. Visitors can explore the Lungsen (Red Rock) and other historical monoliths nearby. The viewpoint area is well-maintained with benches and railings for safety. It offers a unique cultural perspective, showing how the Mizo people have transitioned from a warrior society to a peaceful, flower-loving community. The long drive from Aizawl is compensated by the pristine beauty and the hospitality of the local people who take great pride in their heritage.
