How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport (IXE), approximately 28-30 km away. A taxi or app-based cab is the only convenient option from the airport, taking about 50 minutes to an hour via the local roads.

By Train: The closest major station is Mangalore Central Railway Station (MAQ), located about 18 km away. From MAQ, hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw to Thumbe village. You will need to travel via the NH75 (Bengaluru Road) or local roads to the Bantwal direction.

By Road (Bus): Take a local bus from the Mangalore State Bank terminal or the KSRTC Bus Stand towards Bantwal or Vittal. You must get off at the Thumbe village bus stop on the highway. From the bus stop, the barrage is a short auto-rickshaw ride or a considerable walk (1-2 km). Be sure to check with the bus conductor that the bus stops near the Thumbe Barrage.

By Local Transport: A dedicated auto-rickshaw or taxi is the most direct way to reach the site. Since the location is slightly remote, ensure you arrange for a return journey or have the driver wait for you, as finding an auto for the return trip from the barrage itself can be difficult.
