How To Reach Panambur Beach

Mangalore, Karnataka, India
Award-Winning Cleanliness and Commercial Activity: Panambur Beach is the most famous, popular, and most commercialized beach in Mangalore. It has the distinction of being one of the cleanest and best-maintained beaches in India, a credit that goes to the private enterprise, the Panambur Beach Touris m Development Project (PBTDP), which manages it. Situated near the New Mangalore Port (NMPT), this beach is a hub of activity and the only beach in Mangalore offering a wide range of paid water sports and adventure activities, including jet skiing, parasailing, and speed boating. The beach is a perfect blend of natural beauty—featuring clean, yellowish-brown sand and the expansive Arabian Sea—and high-energy entertainment. Its popularity means it is often crowded, especially on Weekends and public holidays, creating a vibrant, fun-filled atmosphere suitable for families and thrill-seekers alike. The beach is also the primary venue for major international and local events, such as the famous International Kite Festival and boat races. The excellent facilities, including dedicated lifeguards, clean restrooms, and food stalls, make it a safe and convenient tourist destination. The spectacular sunset view over the water is a daily highlight, but the main draw remains the sheer variety of activities and the bustling energy. The juxtaposition of the serene coastline with the commercial activity of the nearby port adds a unique dimension to the location.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport (IXE), located about 15 km away. A taxi or app-based cab (like Ola or Uber) will take you directly via NH66 in about 25-30 minutes.

By Train: The closest station is Surathkal Railway Station (SL), only about 7 km away, but the major connection is from Mangalore Central Railway Station (MAQ), which is about 12 km away. From both stations, an auto-rickshaw or taxi is needed for the final stretch.

By Road (Bus): Take a city bus from the State Bank bus terminal heading North towards Surathkal, Udupi, or directly to the Panambur Bus Stop (routes along NH66). From the bus stop, the beach is a short 1-2 km walk or an auto-rickshaw ride. This is an inexpensive and highly frequent option. Look for buses mentioning Panambur or NMPT.

By Local Transport: Auto-rickshaws and app-based cabs are readily available across Mangalore and will take you directly to the beach's main entrance. Since the beach is famous, most drivers know the location well. Returning is also easy as autos and cabs often wait near the exit.
