Sasihithlu Beach is renowned for its pristine white sand and its tranquil, relatively untouched environment, making it a perfect getaway from the crowds of other Mangalore beaches. Its unique fame comes from being the site of the beautiful natural phenomenon known as a Sangama (confluence), where t he two rivers, Nandini and Shambhavi, meet and then flow together to merge into the Arabian Sea. This creates a unique estuary landscape with the backwaters on one side and the open sea on the other, all separated by the long stretch of white sand. The beach is also a growing hub for water sports, particularly surfing. It has gained international recognition as the venue for the annual All Cargo Indian Open of Surfing, attracting professionals and enthusiasts from around the world. Being less commercialized, the beach offers a serene, natural setting with lush greenery flanking the backwaters. The gentle slope of the shore and the clear waters make it an appealing spot, but visitors should be cautious of the strong tidal currents near the river confluence point. It is often referred to locally as KREC Beach due to its proximity to the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK). The blend of river, beach, and ocean ecosystems makes it a valuable site for nature lovers and bird watchers.

How to Reach

By Air: Mangalore International Airport (IXE) is approximately 25 KM away. Hire a taxi or an app-based cab. The drive will take around 45-60 minutes. You must ensure the driver knows the route to Sasihithlu Beach near Haleyangadi.

By Train: The nearest major railway station is Mangalore Junction (MAJN), about 25 KM away. The nearest local station is Surathkal Railway Station (10 KM). Take an auto-rickshaw or taxi from either station towards Sasihithlu.

By Road: From Mangalore City Center, take NH-66 north towards Surathkal and then Haleyangadi. The total road journey is about 22-25 KM and takes roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour. Look for the signboards after Haleyangadi to turn onto the local road that leads to the beach.

By Local Transport: Local buses run frequently on NH-66 towards Haleyangadi and Udupi. Get off at Haleyangadi or the nearest main road stop and hire a local auto-rickshaw for the final few kilometers to the beach, as direct bus service might be limited.
