Lengteng Tlang Peak

Saitual, Mizoram, India
Lengteng Tlang is the second-highest peak in Mizoram, rising to an impressive elevation of 2,141 meters. It is located within the Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area famous for its alpine forests and rare avian species. The name "Lengteng" is an evolution of "Lengthe," which refers to a l ocal species of insect known for its distinct sound. This mountain is unique because it is considered one of the coldest spots in the state, so cold that local legends claim ants and mosquitoes cannot survive here. The peak is covered in dense forests of Phar (a type of mountain bamboo) and evergreen trees that remain misty throughout the year. For serious trekkers, reaching the summit is a badge of honor, as the trails are steep and often obscured by thick clouds. The sanctuary surrounding the peak is a haven for the Blyth’s Tragopan, a rare and threatened bird, and the Hoolock Gibbon. Standing at the top, one feels a sense of profound isolation and peace, with the vast expanse of the Indo-Myanmar hills stretching out in every direction. The environment here is pristine, largely untouched by modern development, and serves as a critical watershed for the numerous streams that provide water to the villages below.

The "architecture" consists of towering rock cliffs and natural ridges that have been shaped by millions of years of geological activity.
