Nakki Lake

Mount Abu, Rajasthan., India
Nakki Lake is the most popular tourist destination in Mount Abu, often referred to as the "Love Lake." Legend has it that the gods dug this lake with their nails (Nakh) to protect themselves from a demon. It is the first man-made lake in India situated at an altitude of over 1,200 meters. The lake is surrounded by a vibrant promenade filled with shops, food stalls, and lush gardens. On February 12, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were immersed here, making it a site of historical importance with a dedicated Gandhi Ghat. The lake offers various boating facilities, ranging from pedal boats to luxury shikaras. The water is deep green and is flanked by oddly shaped rocks like the famous Toad Rock. It serves as a central hub for all tourism activities in the region. The evening atmosphere here is electric, with music, lights, and families enjoying the cool breeze. It is truly the lifeblood of the city's economy and social life.
