Travel Tips Of Gugamal National Park

Amravati, Maharashtra, India
Gugamal National Park is a sprawling protected area of 1673.93 sq. km., forming the core area of the Melghat Tiger Reserve in the rugged Satpura ranges. Biodiversity Hotspot: It is a critical wildlife habitat, renowned for its population of Bengal Tigers, sloth bears, Indian leopards, Gaur (Indian B ison), and various species of deer (Sambar, Cheetal, Barking Deer). The park also boasts a rich avifauna of over 260 species. Flora and Ecology: The forest is classified as Southern dry deciduous, dominated by Teak (Tectona Grandis) along with other species like Ain, Lendia, and an abundance of bamboo. It is also famous for a wide variety of medicinal plants and has areas of orchids. Conservation Significance: The park plays a crucial role in conservation, especially for the preservation of the tiger population. The reintroduction of Marsh Crocodiles (mugger) in the local rivers is another notable conservation success, making it a key ecological and environmental landmark in Maharashtra. Visitor facilities often start from nearby spots like Semadoh or Chikhaldara.:

Tourism Tips

Health & Safety: Follow the instructions of the forest guide strictly; keep a safe distance from wildlife. Carry a basic first-aid kit, and anti-malarial tablets (Monsoon/Post-Monsoon). Wear natural-colored clothing (greens, browns). Never exit the jeep.

Packing: Bring binoculars, a good camera with a telephoto lens, a hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen. Pack warm layers for the early morning and evening safaris in winter. Carry sufficient cash, as ATMs are scarce near the park gates.

Accommodation: Stay options are available at Forest Rest Houses/Camps at Semadoh and Kolka, and various hotels/resorts in Chikhaldara (20-30 KMS from park entry). Book accommodation and safaris months in advance, especially for winter.

Other Different Topics: Safari bookings must be done online on the forest department portal. Do not wear bright colors or use loud voices. Smoking and littering are strictly prohibited inside the park.:
