Tuirihiau Falls

Chhingpuii Thlan, Mizoram, India
Tuirihiau Falls is perhaps the most unique waterfall in Mizoram. While not as high as Vantawng, its special feature is a large cave-like space behind the falling curtain of water. This allows visitors to actually walk behind the waterfall and look through the water at the valley beyond. The experie nce is truly magical and somewhat surreal. The fall is located on the Vanva River and is surrounded by dense, lush vegetation. The sound of the water crashing into the pool below is thunderous and invigorating. The path to the falls is relatively easy compared to other Mizo treks, making it accessible to most people. The mist from the falls keeps the surrounding area cool even in the height of summer. It is a photographer's dream, offering perspectives that are rare in nature. The rock formations around the falls are ancient and covered in moss and ferns, adding to the primeval feel of the place. It is a spot that invites you to linger and soak in the raw power of nature.
