How To Reach Tlawng River
Mamit, Mizoram, India
The Tlawng River, also known as the Dhaleswari in Assam, is the longest and most significant river in Mizoram. It flows along the eastern border of the Mamit District before heading north to eventually join the Barak River. Historically, the Tlawng was the primary lifeline and trade route, navigable by small boats up to Sairang, making it crucial for the state's early connectivity with the outside world. The river valley is less steep than the Teirei or Tut valleys in some parts, allowing for larger, more established settlements like Sairang to flourish on its banks. It is the main water source for the capital city, Aizawl. The Tlawng offers opportunities for riverbank picnics, boat rides (where available), and is a site of significant socio-cultural importance.

How to Reach

By Air:: Fly to Lengpui Airport (Aizawl, 40 KMS from Sairang). Sairang is often the first stop after the airport. From Mamit town, a taxi to the river is about a 2-hour drive.

By Train:: Nearest station is Bairabi (Kolasib District), approx. 80 KMS away, followed by a taxi/bus ride. The new Sairang station, though physically closer to the river, is still under development for full connectivity.

By Road:: The river is accessible from the Aizawl-Mamit road at several points. A dedicated hired taxi from Mamit is the best option. From Aizawl, shared Sumos can reach the Sairang area easily.

By Local Transport:: For the Mamit side, a hired local taxi is necessary to reach the remote bank access points.
