Ideal Visit Time: The Ideal Visit Time for a comfortable and scenic day trek is to start before 6:00 AM to reach the summit by mid-morning before the sun becomes harsh. For the most profound experience, the Night Trek to witness Sunrise from the summit (start at 1:00 AM to 2:00 AM) is highly recommended.
Temple Timings: The small Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple at the peak is usually open throughout the day and night on important festival days (Pournami, Shivaratri) and is managed by local priests or volunteers.Special Events:

Thousands of devotees undertake the challenging Night Trek to reach the summit to perform special prayers and Abishegams to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy throughout the night. The atmosphere is highly devotional and energetic, with continuous chants and rituals at the peak.
Pournami (Full Moon) Treks: On every Pournami (Full Moon) night, a large number of pilgrims congregate to begin the sacred night climb. This monthly event is a communal act of penance and devotion, offering a unique spiritual experience for all participants. The view of the plains under the full moon is also a key attraction.
Tamil New Year: The beginning of the Tamil calendar in April often sees special ceremonies and poojas at the temple, attracting local devotees and families for a New Year's blessing.Best Photo Spots:

This is the ultimate spot for wide-angle landscape photography and capturing the sheer scale of the trek.
The Kadamparai (Chains and Ladders): The near-vertical final climb, with its fixed Iron Chains and Ladders against the rugged granite rock, provides a dramatic and action-packed photo opportunity. Capture your trekking companion ascending or descending this challenging section to convey the adventure of the pilgrimage.
Sunrise/Sunset from the Peak: Photos of the sun rising or setting over the distant horizon, with the shadow of the hill stretching across the valley, are essential. On a clear day, photos that frame the distant Arunachala Hill are highly valued for their spiritual significance.
The Small Temple: A photo that captures the simplicity and ancient charm of the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple at the summit, often framed against the endless sky, emphasizes the devotion that drives pilgrims to this challenging height.Photo Gallery

This adventurous element attracts serious trekkers and adrenaline seekers alongside pilgrims.
Ancient Shiva Temple: At the peak is the ancient Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, believed to be a very powerful and sacred spot. The temple is especially famous for the belief that it can grant a pilgrim's wishes, often attracting people seeking spiritual fulfillment through a difficult, physical endeavor.
Panoramic View: The mountain is renowned for offering one of the most spectacular Panoramic Views in the district. From the summit, visitors can see the entire valley, surrounding forests, other hills, and, on a clear day, the sacred Arunachala Hill (the Fire Lingam) in Tiruvannamalai city, establishing a spiritual link between the two holy hills. -

The main structure at the summit is the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple itself is architecturally modest, a small structure built primarily with stone and mortar, characteristic of mountain shrines where the focus is on the deity and the natural setting rather than elaborate Gopurams (towers).
Dimension: The temple complex is relatively compact, occupying the limited flat space at the summit. The true architectural marvel lies in the natural structure of the climb itself. The most notable 'architectural' feature is the vertical rock face ascent known as Kadamparai, where permanent aids—heavy iron Chains and steel Ladders—have been installed into the rock to assist pilgrims in their final, near-vertical climb to the summit. These fixed aids are essential structural components of the pilgrimage path.
The Path as the Shrine: The rough-hewn steps, the natural rock platforms, and the small shrines along the way, including the cave and mandapams used for resting, form a unique example of folk-religious infrastructure. The temple faces east, allowing devotees to witness the spectacular Sunrise over the plains. -
