It is internationally famous for hosting the Surajkund International Crafts Mela, the largest crafts fair in the world, typically held every February. Although the ground is a permanent structure, its main significance is as the annual stage for this massive cultural event. The ground is spread over a vast area, covering approximately 40 acres, and is meticulously designed to recreate a traditional village setting, featuring about 1010 work huts built in a rural, ethnic style to host craftspersons and weavers from across India and the world. @@Cultural Significance and Conservation: The venue was initially developed in 1987 to serve the critical purpose of preserving and promoting the languishing arts, crafts, and handlooms of India, giving traditional craftspersons a vital platform to showcase and sell their work directly. Every year, a Theme State of India is selected, whose unique architecture, culture, and cuisine are showcased through specially constructed gates and the 'Apna Ghar' (Our Home) structure, which is meant to be a semi-permanent cultural exhibit.
