Haflong, Assam, India
Samparidisa Village is a small, pristine village primarily inhabited by the Dimasa tribe, located amidst the lush greenery of the Dima Hasao district, the only hill station in Assam. It has gained recognition as one of the "Swachh" (cleanest) villages in Assam, embodying a model for sustainable eco- tourism. The village offers a genuine glimpse into the simple, traditional lifestyle of the Dimasa people, who live in harmony with nature. The community actively promotes ecological sustainability and operates its tourism initiatives, including homestays, to ensure the benefits are retained locally. The main attraction is the proximity to the Bendao Baiglai Waterfall, one of a string of three waterfalls nearby, which is reached through a picturesque trek through dense forests. The village itself is a tranquil, plastic-free zone, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking peace, natural beauty, and a deep dive into the local culture. The emphasis on cleanliness and eco-friendliness makes Samparidisa a standout destination in Northeast India's tourism landscape.

From Haflong (The Base City) Samparidisa Village is located around 13 to 16 KMS from Haflong, the district headquarters. The journey takes about 30 to 45 minutes by road.

By Air (Gateway: Guwahati and Silchar) The nearest major airports are Silchar Airport (IXS) (around 100-120 KMS away) and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati (about 330-350 KMS away). From either airport, you must first reach Haflong by road or train. From Guwahati, you can hire a private taxi (a long journey of 8-10 hours) or take the Vistadome tourist train to New Haflong station. From Silchar, the road journey is shorter (around 3-4 hours) but may be bumpy. By Train (The Scenic Route) New Haflong Railway Station (NHLG) is the nearest major railhead, connecting Haflong with Guwahati and Silchar. The train journey from Guwahati to New Haflong is highly scenic, especially on the twice-weekly Vistadome tourist train. Once you arrive at New Haflong station, you will need to take a local transport option (like an auto-rickshaw or taxi) for the remaining 13-16 KMS to Samparidisa Village. By Road (The Adventure) Haflong is connected to the rest of Assam by national highways (like NH-27/NH-627). The road from Guwahati to Haflong is long (350 KMS, 8-10 hours) but scenic. The stretch of road leading from Haflong to Samparidisa Village itself (especially between Longkok and Jorai) can be uneven and rough, particularly during the monsoon. It's advisable to use robust vehicles like SUVs, Boleros, or local auto-rickshaws for the final leg. By Local Transport (The Final Stretch) The most common and recommended way to reach Samparidisa from Lower Haflong or New Haflong is by hiring a local auto-rickshaw or a private taxi. Auto-rickshaws are often shared, with a fare of approximately INR 60 per person, and can manage the village's rough roads. Private vehicle hire can also be arranged from Haflong town. It is crucial to set the price with the driver before starting the journey.
