The market is named after the Maharaja's predecessor and adoptive father, Maharaja Khanderao Gaekwad (1856–1870). @@Purpose and Current Use: Originally intended as a municipal market, it remains a bustling hub of commerce today, housing a large vegetable, fruit, and flower market. Significantly, the offices of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) are also located within this historic building, making it the administrative and commercial heart of the city. @@Architectural Pride: The building is considered one of Vadodara's most iconic and photographed landmarks, representing the city's golden age of architecture and development under the Gaekwad rule.
