Bhongir Fort
History and Heritage: The Bhongir Fort is an ancient 10th-century structure built on a single, massive monolithic rock that stands at a height of 500 feet. It was founded by the Western Chalukya ruler Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya VI and originally named Tribhuvanagiri, which later evolved into Bhong ir. The fort covers an area of roughly 40 acres and has witnessed the rise and fall of several dynasties, including the Kakatiyas, Bahmanis, and the Qutub Shahis. This historical site is a paradise for trekkers and history buffs, offering a deep dive into the medieval military strategy of the Deccan region. The fort is surrounded by a moat and features several underground chambers, trap doors, and a massive armory. Despite the passage of centuries, the fort remains remarkably well-preserved, showcasing the strength of ancient engineering. The climb to the top involves approximately 600 steps carved directly into the rock face. Visitors are treated to a panoramic view of the entire Bhongir town and the surrounding lush green landscape.
