Overview: Jammu is the winter capital of the Union Territory and the cultural heart of the Duggar land. Situated on the banks of the Tawi River, it is a city of ancient temples, grand palaces, and vibrant bazaars. It serves as the main transit point for pilgrims heading to the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi. Historical Legacy: Founded by Raja Jambu Lochan, the city has a history dating back over 3,000 years. The majestic Bahu Fort and the Mubarak Mandi Palace showcase the architectural grandeur of the Dogra rulers. The city has survived various invasions while maintaining its unique cultural identity and religious harmony. Spiritual Aura: Known as the "City of Temples," Jammu's skyline is dotted with countless shikhars (spires). The Raghunath Temple complex is one of the largest in North India, housing idols of almost the entire Hindu pantheon. The Peer Kho cave temple is another site of deep spiritual and geological interest. Modern Growth: Today, Jammu is a bustling commercial center with modern amenities, educational institutions, and shopping malls. Despite the modernization, the old city maintains its narrow lanes filled with the aroma of local street food like Kachalu and Rajma Chawal. It is the gateway to the scenic hills of the region.
