The Sultan was known for his love of leisure and fine arts, which is reflected in the palace's design. The name 'Jahaz Mahal' is derived from its unique setting, situated on a narrow strip of land between the two artificial lakes, Munj Talao (Munja Lake) and Kapur Talao (Camphor Lake), giving it the breathtaking illusion of a magnificent ship floating on water. It is a key monument in the Royal Group of Monuments in Mandu and embodies the romantic medieval history of the region.
