Kamalasagar Kali Temple
Kamalasagar Kali Temple, also known as Kasba Kali Bari, is one of the most revered religious sites in Tripura. Built by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in the late 15th century, it stands on a hillock overlooking the vast Kamalasagar Lake. The deity is unique; while it is a temple of Goddess Kali, the idol is actually of a ten-handed Durga (Mahishasurmardini) carved from sandstone. Because a Shivalinga is placed at the feet of the deity, she is worshipped as Kali following the Shakti tradition. This temple holds immense historical value as it sits right on the edge of the India-Bangladesh international border. Visitors can see the border fencing and even hear the whistles of trains from the nearby Kasba railway station in Bangladesh. The serene environment combined with the spiritual aura makes it a top destination for pilgrims and history buffs alike. The temple underwent several renovations by later kings of the Manikya dynasty, ensuring its survival over centuries. It serves as a symbol of the deep-rooted religious heritage of the region.
