Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary
Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary is a sprawling 400 square kilometer paradise and a vital part of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. Established in 1975, it serves as a crucial corridor for wildlife moving between India and Nepal. The sanctuary is characterized by its "Mosaic" landscape, featuring dense Sal forests, lush grasslands, and intricate wetlands. It is one of the few places in India where you can find five flagship species: Tiger, Rhino, Elephant, Gharial, and Dolphin. The sanctuary is divided into several forest ranges like Motipur, Kakraha, and Nishangara, each offering a unique ecosystem. The silence of the jungle is often broken by the alarm calls of Spotted Deer or the majestic trumpeting of wild elephants. Visitors can explore the core areas via jeep safaris, which provide a thrilling chance to spot the Royal Bengal Tiger. The sanctuary also plays a major role in the conservation of the Hispid Hare and the Bengal Florican. For nature lovers, this is an untouched wilderness that offers a raw and authentic jungle experience away from commercialized tourist hubs.
