Kathgodam

Haldwani, Uttarakhand, India
Kathgodam is the terminal point of the North Eastern Railway and the gateway to the entire Kumaon region. Historically, it served as a major "Timber Depot," which is where its name (meaning wood godown) originates. Located on the banks of the Gaula River, it offers a transition from the plains to t he mountains. The town is famous for its busy railway station and the beautiful Sheetla Devi Temple. It serves as a base for travelers heading to Nainital, Ranikhet, and Almora. The area is blessed with scenic beauty, waterfalls, and a cooler climate than the main Haldwani city. It is a vital hub for trade and tourism in Uttarakhand.
