Mualcheng South
Detail of the Site: Lung Milem, which means "Stone Figures" in the Mizo language, is one of the most mysterious archaeological sites in Mizoram. It consists of three figurines carved into a rock face, depicting persons in a meditational pose similar to Buddha. What makes it fascinating is that ther e is no other evidence of ancient Buddhism in this region, leaving historians puzzled about its origin. The carvings are located on the southern edge of the Tawikhawthlir hill, overlooking a vast valley. Local legends suggest they might have been carved by travelers from neighboring Myanmar or Tripura centuries ago. The site is a bit remote, requiring a drive followed by a short hike, but the mystery makes it worth the effort. The carvings have survived the elements for a long time, though they show some signs of weathering. It is a place that sparks the imagination of every visitor.
