The St. Ann's Catholic Historic Church is a significant landmark, standing as a tangible reminder of Yanam’s long history as a French colonial enclave. Built in 1846 (with the current structure primarily from a later period), the church is a beautiful example of European ecclesiastical architectur e adapted to the Indian climate. It served as the spiritual center for the French colonial community and the local Catholics. The church is famous for its serene atmosphere, beautiful stained glass, and the fact that much of its original furniture and decorations were imported directly from France. The foundation stone was laid by Father Michel Lecnam, in whose memory a commemorative plaque is placed. Despite the departure of the French, the church remains an active place of worship for the local Catholic community and a major draw for history and architecture enthusiasts. Its survival and continued use represent the peaceful coexistence of cultures and religions in Yanam. The complex often includes a small presbytery and a quiet, maintained compound.
