The Government Botanical Garden, housing the famous National Orchidarium, is a 18-hectare paradise for nature lovers and researchers. Established in 1963, it is one of the most significant botanical centers in India, managed by the Botanical Survey of India. The garden is home to over 3,000 trees, 1,800 shrubs, and a staggering collection of 250 species of orchids, many of which are endangered. The star attraction is the National Orchidarium, where you can find the rare Kurinji flower, which famously blooms once every 12 years. The garden is divided into various sections, including a Bonsai Garden, a Rock Garden, and a Cactus House. Walking through the well-laid paths, you can see exotic insectivorous plants like the Pitcher Plant and a wide variety of ferns. It serves as a vital conservation center for the flora of the Eastern Ghats. The garden's layout is both aesthetic and educational, with most plants labeled with their scientific names.
