Satpura Tiger Reserve

Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh, India
The Satpura Tiger Reserve is a premier wildlife sanctuary and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Spanning over 2,100 square kilometers, it is one of the most rugged and beautiful tiger habitats in India. Unlike the crowded parks of Kanha or Bandhavgarh, Satpura offers a more serene and raw wilderness expe rience. The landscape is a mix of deep valleys, sandstone peaks, and dense forests of Sal and Teak. It is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the Royal Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Sloth Bear, and the Malabar Giant Squirrel. The reserve is also unique because it is one of the few places in India where you can legally go on a Walking Safari inside the core area. The Denwa River flows through the park, providing opportunities for boat safaris and sightings of crocodiles and migratory birds. For travelers, it represents the ultimate escape into nature, where the focus is on the entire ecosystem rather than just a tiger sighting. The reserve's ancient rock shelters also contain prehistoric paintings, merging natural history with human heritage.
