Tarkulha Devi Temple

Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India
Devotional History and Martyrdom: This temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and holds a unique place in India's revolutionary history. It was the "Ishta Devi" of the great freedom fighter Babu Bandhu Singh. Legend has it that Bandhu Singh used to sacrifice British soldiers to the Goddess during his guerilla warfare. When he was finally captured and sentenced to hang, the rope broke seven times by the grace of the Goddess. Only after he prayed to the Mata did the eighth attempt succeed on August 12, 1857. Today, the temple is a major pilgrimage site attracting devotees from Bihar, Nepal, and Uttar Pradesh. It is famous for its "Mutton Handi" prasad, which is unique to this shrine. The temple is surrounded by a dense grove of trees, creating a traditional "Vatika" atmosphere. It is a site where faith and patriotism are deeply intertwined. :
