The 'Brokpa' name likely refers to the Dards, an Indo-Aryan group, although the fort’s primary significance is its association with the Yabgo rulers who used it as a defensive outpost. The ruins are not an intact structure but remnants of massive stone walls, watchtowers, and foundations that once formed a commanding fortification overlooking the entire valley, the Shyok River, and the approaches to the village. The ascent to the ruins is a moderately challenging but rewarding hike, offering a stunning 360-degree view of the entire Turtuk landscape, making it clear why this location was chosen for a fort.
