Chabimura Cave Carvings

Jolaibari, Tripura, India
Chabimura, also known as Devtamura, is a spectacular archaeological site famous for its massive rock-cut sculptures on steep mountain walls. These carvings, dating back to the 15th-16th century, depict various Hindu deities like Shiva, Vishnu, Kartika, and Durga. The most magnificent among them is the 13-meter high image of Goddess Chakrakma (Durga), which is considered the largest rock-cut Durga idol in India. Visitors must take a boat ride through a narrow gorge flanked by lush greenery to witness these masterpieces. The area is often called the "Amazon of Tripura" due to its dense rainforest and mystical atmosphere. The river flows calmly here, reflecting the towering cliffs and the intricate artistry of ancient craftsmen. Exploring the nearby caves adds an element of adventure to the spiritual journey.
