Devprayag

Dhanaulti, Uttarakhand, India
Devprayag is one of the most sacred towns in India, marking the "Godly Confluence" where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet. This merger gives birth to the holy river Ganga, which then flows down to the plains. Located at an elevation of 830 meters, the town is the final of the Panch Prayag ( five confluences). The distinct colors of the two rivers—the turquoise blue of the Bhagirathi and the muddy brown of the Alaknanda—create a stunning visual contrast at the point of meeting. Apart from its geographical importance, Devprayag is a major pilgrimage center. The ancient Raghunathji Temple, dedicated to Lord Rama, stands tall above the confluence and is believed to be over 1,000 years old. Legend says that Lord Rama performed penance here to cleanse himself after the battle in Lanka. The town is also the winter seat of the Badrinath priests. Walking through the narrow, winding lanes of the old town gives visitors a sense of traveling back in time. The suspension bridges over the roaring rivers offer panoramic views of the valley. It is a place where spirituality meets the raw power of nature, making it a must-visit for every traveler in Uttarakhand.
