The Kumari Amman Temple, also known as the Bhagavathi Amman Temple, is one of the most sacred and ancient Hindu temples in India, with a history dating back over 3000 years. Dedicated to Devi Kanya Kumari, the adolescent girl child form of Goddess Parvati and a manifestation of Shakti, it is revered as one of the 108 Shakti Peethas where the right shoulder and spine area of Sati's corpse is believed to have fallen. The temple holds immense religious significance and is a major pilgrimage site. The idol of the Goddess is famously adorned with an exquisite, bright diamond nose ring. Legend states that the shine of this nose ring is so powerful that a sailor once mistook it for a guiding beacon and tragically wrecked his ship on the rocks. Consequently, the temple's eastern entrance, facing the sea, is permanently sealed and opened only on five specific, auspicious occasions each year, adding a sense of mystery and tradition to the site. The temple is located right on the seashore near the Triveni Sangam (confluence of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Sea), offering a deeply spiritual and visually stunning backdrop. Devotees visit to perform rituals and seek the blessings of the Virgin Goddess. Non-Hindus are generally restricted from entering the inner sanctum.
