The Rukmavati Bridge is a historic engineering marvel located in the heart of Mandvi. Built in 1883, it stands as one of the longest existing stone arched bridges in India. It was constructed by Vishram Karman Chawda, a master craftsman from the local Mestri community. The bridge spans the Rukmavat i River, which flows into the Arabian Sea nearby. This structure has been a vital link for local transportation for over 140 years. Walking on the bridge gives a panoramic view of the traditional shipbuilding yards where massive wooden vessels are still crafted. The bridge is made of local yellow sandstone that has weathered the salt air beautifully. It connects the main town with the rural outskirts and the beach areas. Despite the construction of a newer bridge nearby, the old structure remains a symbol of Mandvi's maritime glory. At sunset, the river underneath reflects the golden hues of the sky, creating a postcard-perfect scene. It is a quiet place where history and daily life intersect seamlessly.
