Mandvi Fort
The Mandvi Fort, or what remains of it today, is a testament to the town's glorious past as a fortified port. Built in the 16th century by Rao Khengarji I, the fort originally featured high walls, several bastions, and magnificent gates to protect the city from invaders and pirates. Today, only por tions of the wall and some of the grand gates, like the Sonawala Gate, remain standing. These structures are built from local sandstone and showcase the strength of Rajput military architecture. The gates still serve as the primary entry points to the old walled city and the Bandhani Bazaar. Walking through these gates is like stepping back in time, as the architecture reflects a blend of local Kutchi and Mughal styles.
