How To Reach Chokling Monastery

General Details: Chokling Monastery is one of the most visually stunning and spiritually significant monasteries in the Bir Tibetan Colony. Established by the third Neten Chokling Rinpoche in the 1960s, it serves as a center for the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is famous for its large, intricately designed stupa and the massive statue of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) housed within its main prayer hall. Surrounded by lush green lawns and colorful prayer flags, it offers an unobstructed view of the paragliders landing nearby. It is a place of deep quietude where visitors can witness monks engaged in their daily rituals, debates, and meditation. The architecture is a testament to the preservation of Tibetan art in exile.

How to Reach

By Air: Gaggal Airport (DHM) is the nearest, located about 68 KMS away; taxis are readily available for the 2-hour drive.

By Train: The Pathankot Junction is the major railhead (142 KMS), while the local Ahju station is just 3 KMS away.

By Road: Bir is accessible via luxury buses from Delhi (530 KMS) or local buses from Palampur and Dharamshala.

Local Transport: The monastery is located in the heart of the colony and is easily reachable on foot or by bicycle.
