How To Reach Darkhuang Tlang Pukpui

Lunglei, Mizoram, India
Darkhuang Tlang, meaning "Gong Mountain," is a place of profound historical and religious significance in Mizoram, located near Pukpui village just a short drive from Lunglei. Its fame stems from its association with Darphawka, a Mizo prophet from the late nineteenth century. This prophet is said to have retreated to this mountain peak to communicate with the spirits, who reportedly granted him visions of the future. Among the most remarkable prophecies attributed to him was the arrival of Christian missionaries—the "White men from beyond the great seas"—and the instruction for the Mizo people to heed their words, long before Christianity was known in the region. This foresight is a key part of Mizo folklore and history, marking a turning point from animism to Christianity. The tranquility of the mountain and its historical context make it a spiritual destination. A modern prayer house stands on the summit, a testament to the enduring spiritual resonance of the place, drawing both local believers and visitors interested in the cultural history of the Mizo people. The surrounding natural beauty complements the site's spiritual atmosphere, offering a serene escape. Its remoteness from the bustling town center of Lunglei allows for quiet contemplation and appreciation of the historical narrative it represents, cementing its status as an important cultural landmark in the district.
