It primarily controlled the western movement of traffic, potentially towards areas rich in date pa lms (Khajur), from which it may derive its name, or a local tribe/community. The gate was a vital security and customs checkpoint, defining the city's boundary for centuries. Like the other gates, it witnessed the transition of power from the Mughals to the Sikh Misls and finally the British.Current State: Today, the structure is significantly reduced, primarily existing as a location name on an old city street, with perhaps a few historic wall fragments visible. The area is now a busy commercial and residential hub, a testament to the enduring importance of this entry point throughout Batala's history. The street pattern remains narrow, reflecting the dense urban planning of a fortified medieval town.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest major airport is Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport (ATQ) in Amritsar (~60 KM). Take a direct taxi to Batala. From Batala, local transport is required to navigate to the old city center.

By Train: Take a train to Batala Junction Railway Station (BAT). The gate is approximately 1 KM from the station, making for a very short and convenient ride on a local e-rickshaw or cycle-rickshaw. Ask for the "Khajuri Gate area.

"By Road: Batala is well-connected by State Highways and is easily accessible by public buses from Amritsar and Gurdaspur. From the Batala Bus Stand, the gate is a short local transport ride away.

By Local Transport: The best way to reach the gate area in the old city is via local auto-rickshaw or a cycle-rickshaw. The streets are very narrow and congested, making these smaller vehicles the only practical option for access.
