From the airport, one can take a taxi to reach Kohima, which is about 74 kilometers away. The drive takes around 3 hours through scenic winding roads. Many tourists also fly into Guwahati airport in Assam and travel to Nagaland by road or train. There are frequent flights operated by major domestic airlines. Pre-booking a taxi from the airport is recommended for a smooth journey.

By Train: Dimapur is the main railway station and is well-connected to major Indian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, and Guwahati. Many trains from Guwahati run daily, with the journey taking about 4 to 5 hours. From the railway station, shared and private taxis are readily available for onward travel to other districts. The rail network is the most economical way to reach the state. Traveling by train allows you to see the changing landscape of the lush plains of Assam.
