By Train: The nearest major railway station is Jammu Tawi (JAT) (approx. 800 KMS away). The train route is not a practical option.
By Road: The ruins are located on a hillock immediately behind the old part of Padum town. To start the walk/trek, you first drive or walk to the Padum Main Market (the main road terminus).
By Local Transport:
Walk/Trek: The primary way to reach the ruins is by a short, steep trek from the Padum town center (about 1 KM). Ask locals for the path leading to the "Old Khar" or the "hill behind the old town. " The path is well-defined, winding up past the Kani Chortens.
Taxi: If you are unable to walk, a local taxi can take you to the base of the hill near the start of the trekking path from the market area.
Self-Driving/Parking: If self-driving, you should park your vehicle safely near the market or the base of the hill, as there is no road up to the ruins.
Climb: The final part of the journey requires a climb up the steps/path to the summit. It is a very accessible site, but the elevation requires a slow, deliberate pace, especially for those still acclimatizing.
Combining the Visit: This visit is best combined with an exploration of the old lanes of Padum town and the surrounding Kani Stupas.
