Jal Mahal

Palwal, Haryana, India
The Jal Mahal of Palwal, located in the town of Hodal, is a stunning historical monument that reflects the grandeur of the Jat rulers. Built in the 18th century, this palace is situated in the middle of a large water tank known as the Sati Ka Talab. It was constructed by Maharaja Suraj Mal of Bhara tpur as a pleasure palace and a retreat for the royal family. The palace appears to float on the water, providing a cool and serene environment even during the hot summer months. Legend says it was built for Maharani Kishori, who was the daughter of a local landlord and later became the queen of Bharatpur. The site is a fine example of how ancient Indian architecture integrated water management with luxury. Over the years, the structure has faced some decay, but it still stands as a testament to the artistic vision of the era. The surrounding tank was designed to collect rainwater, serving both aesthetic and practical purposes for the local community.
