Jatayu Shila
Epic Legend in Stone: Jatayu Shila is a fascinating geological and mythological site located near Farasgaon in the Kondagaon district. According to the Ramayana, this is the spot where the heroic bird Jatayu fought a fierce battle with the demon king Ravana to rescue Goddess Sita. It is believed tha t Jatayu fell here after his wings were clipped, making the massive rocks sacred to devotees. The site features humongous boulders perched on a hilltop, some of which appear to be naturally balanced in a gravity-defying manner. From the top of these rocks, visitors can enjoy a stunning view of the Bastar plains. A small temple dedicated to Jatayu and Lord Ram is located at the site, where locals offer prayers. The rugged beauty of the giant "Shilas" (rocks) combined with the deep-rooted epic history makes it a unique destination that appeals to both religious pilgrims and nature lovers. The site has been developed with a watchtower and stairs, making the ascent easier for tourists. It stands as a symbol of sacrifice and bravery, immortalized in the very stones of the landscape.
