Khukiye-Lukhai Village
Village Overview: Khukiye-Lukhai Village is a twin-village setup that serves as a living museum of the Sumi Naga culture. It is one of the oldest settlements in the region and preserves the traditional "Khel" system of governance. The village is perched on a high ridge, offering panoramic views of t he surrounding valleys and the Satoi Range. It is famous for its traditional wooden houses adorned with "Mithun" horns, symbolizing the wealth and status of the owners. The residents are known for their hospitality and still practice ancient weaving and woodcarving techniques. Visitors can experience the authentic Naga lifestyle, including the preparation of smoked meats and local rice beer. The village architecture is a mix of the old and new, but the cultural core remains untouched. It is a place where oral traditions and folk songs are passed down through generations during the Ahuna festival. Walking through the village feels like a journey back in time to the era of the headhunters, now transformed into a peaceful agrarian community.
