Manimuthar Falls

Courtallam, Tamil Nadu, India
Manimuthar Falls is a spectacular waterfall located at the foothills of the Podhigai Hills, about an hour's drive from Courtallam. It is formed by the Manimuthar River, which is a major tributary of the Thamirabarani River. Unlike the vertical drops of Courtallam, this fall cascades over a series o f rocks into a deep natural pool. The waterfall is approximately 25 feet high, but the sheer volume of water and the surrounding forest make it a grand sight. It is situated just a few kilometers above the massive Manimuthar Dam. The water here is known for being incredibly clear and cold, as it flows through dense, undisturbed forest areas. The area is part of the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) buffer zone, ensuring a high degree of natural preservation. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing bath in the designated areas, though caution is advised due to the depth of the pool in some sections. The drive to the falls is equally mesmerizing, passing through rubber plantations and winding hill roads. The spot offers a more "wild" experience compared to the urbanized falls of Courtallam. It is a sanctuary for those who appreciate raw natural beauty and tranquil surroundings. The mist from the falls often creates small rainbows on sunny days, adding to the magic of the location.
